A typical Discord message costs one credit; a long one costs a handful. Advanced mode. | To size a plan for a specific server, use `/recommend` in it rather than estimating: it measures channel activity, its direction over the last month, and what the server has already spent, then reports which plan fits and what a cheaper one would cost in practice. It is free and works on an empty balance. Facts that are commonly got wrong: - Every server gets 2,000 trial credits **once**, not per month. - Without a subscription a server also includes 3 `/ask` or @mention replies in total. - Any request estimated above 3,000 credits asks for confirmation first. - An @mention conversation is bounded as a whole rather than per step: one session may spend up to 3,000 credits, shows the running total as it works, and asks once before going further. It can never be raised past the server's per-member limit. - An @mention that runs out of credits, steps, or upstream capacity still answers with what it gathered and names what it missed. It does not fail with nothing. - Unused monthly credits do not roll over; they reset each billing period. Top-up credits do not expire. - Every action reports what it spent and what is left. `/usage` shows the current balance and is free. - Recast buttons on an existing summary are new requests and cost credits again. ## Commands ### /catchup Find out what you missed. Works with no options at all. Options: - `since` (default: your last message in the channel) — How far back to read. Understands plain language — “3 hours”, “yesterday”, “since monday”, “jan 5 2pm”. - `until` (default: now) — Stop at a point instead of the present — “this morning”, “9am”. - `scope` (default: this channel) — Either this channel, or everywhere you can read in the server. Server-wide needs Pro or Scale. - `channel` (default: the channel you're in) — Summarize a different channel. - `count` (default: off — the time window decides) — Summarize an exact number of recent messages instead. Between 5 and your plan's limit. - `public` (default: false — only you see it) — Post the summary into the channel for everyone instead of privately to you. - `preset` (default: none) — Apply a saved preset — yours, or one the server shares. Pro and Scale. - Right-click any message → Apps → Catch up from here starts a catch-up at that exact message. - Every result carries buttons to recast it, expand a single topic, ask a follow-up, or share it to the channel. ### /ask Find a cited answer in recent Discord messages. Options: - `question` (required) — What you want answered, up to 300 characters. Required. - `since` (default: recent history) — How far back to search. - `scope` (default: this channel) — This channel, or everywhere you can read. Server-wide needs Pro or Scale. - `channel` (default: the channel you're in) — Search a different channel. - Every factual sentence links to the message that supports it. A sentence that can't be evidenced doesn't get written. - Without a subscription, a server includes three /ask or @mention replies in total. ### @Summary Bot Mention the bot to work through something in a visible thread. - It opens a Discord thread you and everyone else can read — there is no hidden conversation. - It can read and search any channel you can read, open a Discord link you paste, check what a channel has pinned, and count how much a channel or the server has been talking. - A conversation has one credit limit — 3,000 by default — and the running total is shown while it works. It asks once before going past that, and stopping there still gives you what it found. - If it runs out of credits or steps, it answers with what it has and says what it didn't get to, with the links. It never stops without either a result or the one thing to change. - Anything that posts, edits, or deletes is a proposal until you confirm it, and it can only edit or delete its own messages. - Mentions are rate limited per person and channel so one conversation can't crowd out a server. ### /schedule add Schedule a recurring summary, daily or weekly. Requires: Starter and up Who can run it: Anyone, for their own DMs. Delivering to a channel needs Manage Server. Options: - `every` (required) — Every day, or every named weekday. Required. - `at` (required) — The hour it runs, on the clock, in your timezone. Required. - `deliver` (default: your DMs) — Your DMs (private, needs no permissions) or a channel (public, needs Manage Server). - `source` (default: the channel you're in) — Which channel to summarize. - `server_wide` (default: false) — Summarize everything readable in the server instead of one channel. Pro and Scale. - `to` (default: —) — Which channel it posts in. Only used when delivering to a channel. - `tier` (default: Fast) — Which quality runs it. - `max_credits` (default: 3,000) — The most one automatic run may spend, from 3,000 to 100,000. A run that would cost more reads less history instead. - Set your timezone with /settings first, or the hour you pick will be interpreted as UTC. ### /schedule list · off · run See what's set up here, stop one, or run one now to see what it produces. Options: - `which` (required) — Which schedule, on off and run. ### /live on Keep one message updated with what a busy channel is talking about. Requires: Pro and Scale Who can run it: Manage Server Options: - `channel` (required) — The busy channel to follow. Required. - `post_to` (default: the source channel) — Where the single live message lives. - `messages` (default: 50) — New messages needed before it refreshes, from 25 to 500. Pro's floor is 50; Scale's is 25. - `tier` (default: Fast) — Quality used for each update. - `max_credits` (default: 3,000) — The most one automatic update may spend, from 3,000 to 100,000. - It counts new messages as they arrive rather than polling Discord, so a quiet channel costs nothing at all. ### /live off · status Stop a live summary, or list the ones running in this server. Who can run it: Manage Server Options: - `channel` (required) — The source channel whose live summary should stop. ### /settings Change how your summaries look. These are your settings, not the server's. Options: - `quality` (default: Fast) — How capable a model to use: Cheap, Fast, Balanced, or Deep, depending on the plan. - `detail` (default: Standard) — How much to write per topic: Brief, Standard, Detailed, or Exhaustive. - `language` (default: match the channel) — Always summarize in a given language. - `output` (default: Cards) — Cards, or a file. File output is part of advanced mode. - `timezone` (default: UTC) — An IANA name like America/New_York, so “since 9pm” means your 9pm. - Picking an advanced-only option turns advanced mode on for you rather than refusing. ### /advanced Unlock raw prompts, exhaustive detail, and file output. Requires: Pro and Scale Options: - `enabled` (default: true) — Turn advanced mode on or off. ### /preset Save a summary configuration — a prompt plus quality, detail, output, and language — and reuse it. Requires: Pro and Scale Options: - `new` (required) — Write a preset in a modal. `for_server` shares it with everyone and needs Manage Server. - `list` (required) — Your presets and this server's. - `default` (required) — Make a server preset a channel's default. - `delete` (required) — Delete one of yours. - `export` (required) — Get a shareable `sbp1:…` code. - `import` (required) — Add a preset someone shared, optionally under a new name. ### /admin overview See setup, credits, member limits, access, privacy, automation, and overage at once. Who can run it: Manage Server - This is the leading server-admin command. It names the exact command for every setting it shows. ### /admin setup Check the bot's Discord permissions and find server setup controls. Who can run it: Manage Server - Reports View Channel, Read Message History, Send Messages, and Embed Links independently, so you can see exactly which one is missing. - The New-member welcome setup button opens the same management panel as /admin welcome without changing its state. ### /admin welcome Manage private welcome summaries for new members after membership screening. Who can run it: Manage Server - Opening the private panel changes nothing. Enable and Disable are separate, explicit actions; enabling requires Pro or Scale. - Shows current state, source selection, per-welcome credit limit, daily slots used, the plan allowance, and server funding. Slots count admitted runs, not confirmed DM deliveries. - Choose up to 25 source channels or all eligible sources, and set a per-welcome credit limit. Quality, detail, and the plan's daily allowance stay fixed. - Each member can opt out across servers with /privacy welcome receive:false, run in a server. ### /admin limits Set how quickly one member may use the server's shared credits. Who can run it: Manage Server Options: - `daily_member` (default: plan-aware default) — Credits one member may use each UTC day, from 100 to 500,000. Use 0 to restore the default. - `period_member` (default: the plan allowance) — Credits one member may use in one billing period, from 100 to 500,000. Free and top-up-only servers use a UTC calendar month. Use 0 to restore the default. - Only interactive requests count. Schedules, live summaries, and welcome summaries use their own per-run caps; welcomes also have a plan-based daily slot allowance. - Run it with no options to inspect the current limits without changing them. ### /usage This server's plan, credits, safeguards, activity, and renewal date. - Also where you apply a top-up you bought. A one-time purchase belongs to you until you choose which server it goes to. - Read-only for everyone. Server admins change safeguards with /admin limits. ### /update The most recent improvements, newest first, with the date each shipped. - The same list as the changelog on this site, read from inside Discord. Updated with every production release. - Private to you, and costs nothing. ### /recommend See which plan this server actually needs. Free, and reads no messages. - It measures the channels you can read — how busy each one is, how that has moved over the last month, and what the server has actually spent — then says which plan fits and what a cheaper one would cost you in practice. - Free and costs no credits, so it still works when the server has run out. Twice a day per server, resetting at midnight UTC. - No message content is read. Timestamps become rates, characters become credits, and authors become a count. ### /privacy Control what the bot may read, and delete what it holds about you. Options: - `info` (required) — What it reads, stores, and doesn't. - `optout` (required) — Exclude your messages from every summary in this server. - `welcome` (required) — Run in a server with receive:false to stop your new-member welcome DMs everywhere, or receive:true to allow them. Does not change the server's setting. - `forget` (required) — Delete everything it holds about you, everywhere. Asks first, and can't be undone. - `channel` (required) — Admins: block a channel for everyone, including admins. - `restrict` (required) — Admins: require Manage Server for interactive summary requests. Does not disable automatic new-member welcomes. ### /setapikey · /removeapikey Add an optional OpenAI or Anthropic key used only after the server's credits run out. Options: - `for_server` (default: false — just for you) — Let everyone in the server use it. Needs Manage Server. - A key adds fuel. It never unlocks a quality tier, a feature, or a higher limit. ### /debug Explain the last summary: quality, coverage, timing, the prompt used, and the credits it spent. - Open to everyone — it's the transparency surface, not an admin tool. ### /help A short tour of what the bot can do, inside Discord. ## Permissions The invite requests exactly these eight Discord permissions and nothing else. The mask is 309237763200. - **View Audit Log** — To identify who added the bot and send that person the one-time setup DM. - **View Channels** — To see that a channel exists at all. - **Read Message History** — To read the messages it is summarizing. - **Send Messages** — To reply with the summary. - **Embed Links** — Summaries are Discord embeds; without this they cannot render. - **Attach Files** — Only for file output, which is off by default. - **Create Public Threads** — For the @mention agent's visible working thread. - **Send Messages in Threads** — To reply inside that thread and in existing threads. It does not request Manage Messages, Mention Everyone, Manage Threads, or Send TTS Messages. Every request checks the permissions of the person asking before the bot's own, so a summary can never include a channel that person cannot already read. When a summary is posted publicly, a source channel is included only if everyone who can see the destination can also read that source. Message content is held in memory for one request and then discarded. No transcripts are stored. ## Error codes Every failure carries a stable code and a short trace id, shown together at the bottom of the message (for example `SB-CREDIT-402 · trace f3a9c2`). Each code has its own page. ### Credits and plans - **SB-CREDIT-402** — This server needs more credits. The request costs more credits than the server has left. Fix: Buy a top-up or upgrade from the buttons on the error, or narrow the request so it costs less. After buying a top-up, run /usage and apply it to this server — a purchase belongs to you until you choose where it goes. - **SB-CREDIT-429** — You've reached today's member safeguard. One member can only spend so many of the server's shared credits in a day, so a single account can't empty the balance for everyone. Fix: Wait for the daily reset named in the message, or ask an admin to change /admin limits. This is per person, so other members are unaffected. - **SB-CREDIT-430** — You've reached this period's member safeguard. One member has reached the server's interactive credit limit for this billing period or UTC month. Fix: Wait for the reset named in the message, or ask an admin to change /admin limits. Other members and automatic summaries are unaffected. - **SB-CREDIT-409** — That quality needs a higher automatic-run limit. Every automatic run has a standing credit cap. The quality you picked costs more than that cap allows even at its smallest size. Fix: Run the command again with max_credits set to at least the minimum the message names. - **SB-CREDIT-400** — That member safeguard won't work. A per-member safeguard has to sit inside the range the message names, or be 0 to restore the recommended default for the plan. Fix: Run /admin limits again with a value inside that range. 0 always restores the default rather than removing the safeguard. - **SB-CREDIT-503** — Paid usage is temporarily paused for this server. An internal cost safeguard stopped the request. Your credit balance was not touched. Fix: Try again later, use your own API key, or report it in the community server — this one is worth telling me about. - **SB-TIER-402** — That quality needs a higher plan. Model quality is part of the plan, not something credits buy. Balanced needs Pro; Deep needs Scale. Fix: Pick a quality the plan includes, or upgrade the server. - **SB-PLAN-402** — That feature needs a higher plan. Server-wide summaries, live channels, presets, and welcome summaries are plan features. Buying credits does not unlock them. Fix: Upgrade the server from the button on the error. - **SB-PLAN-409** — This plan's limit is full. You've used every schedule or live channel the plan includes. Fix: Remove one you no longer need, or upgrade for a higher limit. - **SB-ASK-402** — This server used its three included asks. Without a subscription a server gets three /ask or @mention replies in total. Catch-ups keep working while it has credits. Fix: Subscribe to keep asking questions. A top-up adds credits but won't unlock this. - **SB-QUOTA-431** — Summary Bot reached its daily safety stop. The bot's own provider wallet hit its daily ceiling. This is separate from your server's credits and resets at midnight UTC. Fix: Try again tomorrow, or use your own API key in the meantime. - **SB-QUOTA-433** — Credit-funded requests are temporarily paused. Calls paid for by Summary Bot are paused. Your credits have not changed, and requests using a personal key still work. Fix: Try again later, or add your own API key. - **SB-AGENT-430** — Slow down for a moment. Agent mentions are rate limited per person and channel. Fix: Wait about a minute and mention it again. - **SB-REC-429** — This server has used today's plan analyses. /recommend reads the whole server and costs no credits, so it runs twice a day per server. The count resets at midnight UTC. Fix: The last answer is still good — a server's shape doesn't change overnight. /usage shows the current plan and balance in the meantime. - **SB-REC-204** — There isn't enough activity to analyse yet. There were no recent messages in any channel both you and the bot can read, so anything /recommend said about a plan would be a guess rather than a measurement. Fix: Come back once the server has been talking for a few days. New servers can start with the free trial's 2,000 credits, granted once per server. ### Permissions and privacy - **SB-PERM-403** — You can't read that channel. The bot only summarizes channels you can already see yourself. This is the check that makes it safe to install. Fix: Pick a channel you have access to. - **SB-PERM-401** — The bot can't read that channel. Summary Bot could not read the source channel or thread. Its read permissions may be missing, or Discord may have refused access when it tried to read the history. Fix: Try /catchup in another channel both you and the bot can read. To use the original source, ask an admin to check the bot's View Channel and Read Message History permissions there. - **SB-PERM-407** — The bot can't post in that channel. It can read the channel but has no Send Messages there, so the summary has nowhere to go. Fix: Ask an admin to grant Send Messages in that channel. - **SB-SCHED-403** — The schedule's destination has a different audience. The bot could not confirm that everyone who can see the destination can also read the source channel. A public scheduled summary must not expose a private channel. Uncommon permission layouts can be refused when that audience check is uncertain. Fix: Send this schedule to your DMs, or choose a destination whose audience can read the source channel. - **SB-PERM-402** — The bot can't create a thread here. Posting a summary as a thread needs the Create Public Threads permission. Fix: Ask an admin to grant it, or turn threads off in /settings. - **SB-PERM-405** — You can't create a public thread here. Agent conversations live in a visible thread, and this channel doesn't let you create one. Fix: Mention the bot in a channel where you can create public threads. - **SB-PERM-406** — You can't post in that channel. The agent's write tools never act somewhere you couldn't post yourself. Fix: Choose a channel where you have Send Messages. - **SB-PERM-404** — That needs Manage Server. You tried to change something shared by everyone in the server. Fix: Ask an admin, or make the change just for yourself instead. - **SB-PERM-408** — This server limits summaries to admins. An admin turned on the Manage Server requirement for every summary here. Fix: Ask an admin to run it, or to change /privacy restrict. - **SB-PRIV-403** — Summaries are disabled in that channel. An admin has excluded the channel from summarization entirely. This applies to admins too. Fix: An admin can change it with /privacy channel. - **SB-DM-403** — The bot can't send you a DM. Your Discord privacy settings block direct messages from members of this server. Fix: Turn on “Allow direct messages from server members” in that server's privacy settings, then try again. ### Your request - **SB-MSG-204** — Nothing to catch up on. No messages were found in the range you asked for. Usually the range is narrower than you meant, or everyone in it opted out. Fix: Widen the range, or pick a different channel. - **SB-AGENT-413** — That's too big for one session. One agent reply spends up to 3,000 credits by default, and the first step of this request costs more than that on its own. It appears before anything is charged. Fix: Ask for one channel, or a shorter time range — “what did #launch decide yesterday?” rather than the whole server at once. An admin can also raise the per-member limit with /admin limits. - **SB-TIME-400** — That time didn't parse. The value in since or until wasn't a date or time it could read. Fix: Try “3 hours”, “yesterday”, “since monday”, or “jan 5 2pm”. - **SB-TIME-404** — Unknown timezone. Timezones have to be IANA names, which are the only kind that resolve unambiguously. Fix: Use the Region/City form: America/New_York, Europe/London, Asia/Kolkata. - **SB-BUSY-409** — Still working on the last one. One is already running. Catch-ups queue badly, so only one runs at a time per person, and an agent thread runs one turn at a time. Fix: Give it a few seconds and try again. ### API keys - **SB-KEY-401** — Your API key was rejected. The provider says the key is invalid, revoked, or expired. Fix: Run /setapikey with a fresh key, or /removeapikey to go back to the server's credits. - **SB-KEY-402** — The API account couldn't pay for this. The key is valid, but the provider declined the request for lack of funds. Fix: Add billing on the provider's side, or remove the key with /removeapikey. - **SB-KEY-404** — No payment route is available. The server's credits can't cover the request and there's no key to fall back on. Fix: Top up, upgrade, or add a key with /setapikey. - **SB-KEY-409** — Your saved key couldn't be read. The stored key can no longer be decrypted. This happens when the bot's own credentials are rotated. Fix: Run /setapikey to add it again. Nothing else was lost. ### Upstream - **SB-PROV-503** — The AI provider is having trouble. The request failed at the provider, not in the bot. You were not charged for work that didn't happen. Fix: Try again shortly. - **SB-PROV-504** — That took too long. The provider didn't respond in time. Fix: Try again, or use a smaller range for a faster result. - **SB-PROV-451** — The model declined to summarize this. The provider's safety systems refused the content. It is occasionally a false positive. Fix: Try a narrower range or a different summary style. - **SB-RATE-429** — Rate limited. The provider is throttling requests right now. Fix: Try again in a moment — this usually clears within a minute. - **SB-DISCORD-502** — The summary ran, but Discord couldn't post it. The AI work finished and spent credits, but delivery failed. The message tells you exactly what was spent and what's left, and it won't retry on its own. Fix: Check Send Messages and Embed Links on the destination, then run it again. ### Presets - **SB-PRESET-400** — That preset code isn't valid. The sbp1:… code couldn't be read. Usually it was truncated when copied. Fix: Ask whoever shared it to run /preset export again and copy the whole line. - **SB-PRESET-409** — You already have a preset with that name. Preset names have to be unique. Fix: Pick a different name, or delete the existing one with /preset delete. - **SB-PRESET-404** — No preset with that name. It wasn't among your presets or the server's. Fix: Run /preset list to see what's available. ### Bugs - **SB-SCHED-404** — That schedule isn't here any more. It was removed, or it belongs to a different server. Fix: Run /schedule list to see what's actually set up. - **SB-INT-500** — Something broke on my end. This is a bug, not something you did wrong. It's already been logged. Fix: Press Report on the message to send the details, or quote the trace id in the community server. ## Recent changes - **11 August 2026 — No more buttons that just say “This interaction failed”.** Buttons expire after a while. They used to stay lit, so clicking one got Discord's own error with nothing in it. They now grey out when they expire — except **Join community server**, which never stops working. If a scheduled or live summary stops, /schedule list and the summary itself now always name the reason and the fix, instead of sometimes saying only that it couldn't continue. - **10 August 2026 — Mention me and you always get something back.** If a question runs long, runs out of credits, or the model has a bad minute, I now answer with what I found and say what I didn't get to — with the message links — instead of stopping on an error. When I can't answer at all, the reason names the one thing to change. - **10 August 2026 — One credit limit per conversation, and you can watch it.** An @mention used to ask for approval on each expensive step, which meant several cheaper steps added up quietly. A conversation now has one 3,000-credit limit, the running total is visible while I work, and I ask once — with what I've found so far still yours if you say no. - **10 August 2026 — Paste me a link, ask what's pinned, or ask how busy it's been.** Three things I couldn't do before.
